Volunteer!

Volunteers run Bike Palo Alto. We need team members to help both before and on the day of the event. Have limited hours but want to help? We can accommodate you!

Volunteer jobs are all scaled to take 3 hours or less to complete.  If you would also like to ride on Bike Palo Alto day,  Sunday 9/29, choose a pre-event task, such as putting up street signs or site setup. High school students, all of these qualify for community service credit.

Volunteer Jobs: Pre-event

Publicity – Street Signs.  During 9/20 to 9/23/2019, a week prior to Event Day, pick up about a dozen street signs.  After the event on 9/29, collect and return them.  We provide the signs and a location list.  Total estimated time commitment: 2 – 3 hours.

Site Setup at Fairmeadow Middle School. On the morning of the event, 9/29, work with other volunteers to set up tables, signs, and materials.  Start around 10:30 AM.  You’ll be finished in plenty of time to ride.

Volunteer Jobs: During the event 9/29/2019

Operations at the Start Site. Register participants or be a guide at Fairmeadow Elementary School.  Orientation at 12:15 PM. Help out through clean-up at 3 PM.  (Option: stay through the 1 PM to 2 PM registration rush, then ride.)

Treat Stops Staff.  Give out treats at our treat stops and count participants as they ride past. 1 PM to 4 PM at one of 9 locations on our 3 routes.

Treat Stop Captains. We need three people to be Treat Stop Captains.  Drive your vehicle to distribute goodies and materials to the three treat stops along a single route, and collect what remains at each at 4 PM.  This requires a larger commitment, but you will get the most love!

Bike Check Station. Volunteer to help participants learn a basic Air-Brake-
Chain pre-ride safety check at the starting point at Fairmeadow School from 1 PM to 3 PM. You should be confident in your ability to do these and engage newbies. Bring your own basic tools. Summit Bicycles mechanics will be on hand to make quick repairs or diagnose more complex mechanical issues to get bicyclists out on the road.
